Chaired by Dr. Abdul Rahim Ziyada, President of the Rural Damascus Chamber of Commerce, the Sectoral Committee for Textiles, Fabrics, and Ready-Made Garments held its meeting on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the Chamber’s headquarters, in the presence of Mr. Bassam Sultan, Chairman of the Committee, and its members: Samir Al-Nabulsi, Mohammed Abu Sara, Raslan Sanbal, Adnan Al-Ajouh, Bashar Haidar, Mahmoud Dalbeeq, Bassam Haidar, Mohammed Amer Rankousi, Yasser Hijazi, Ali Barqouqi, Abdul Jalil Zaidan, Anton Haddad, and Mohammed Ziad Al-Razz.

During the meeting, participants discussed the challenges facing school uniform producers due to changes in school dress codes and the resulting losses from unsold and damaged stored fabrics. They stressed the importance of notifying manufacturers of any changes at least one year in advance and ensuring that new designs are suitable for all segments of society.

Dr. Ziyada proposed forming a delegation to visit the Minister of Education to obtain approval for establishing a specialized committee that includes representatives from the school uniform manufacturing sector to participate in decision-making.

Mr. Ali Barqouqi, Sales Manager of “Nas Tex” Exhibition, then presented the importance of participating in the upcoming exhibition, scheduled from April 1 to 4, 2026, at the Damascus Fairgrounds under the patronage of the President of the Syrian Arab Republic. He highlighted the discounts offered to participants from chambers of commerce and industry, and the role of the exhibition in boosting marketing efforts and expanding into international markets, with participation from Arab and foreign exhibitors to exchange expertise. He also confirmed full support for enterprises to showcase their products effectively.

The meeting further included proposals to amend customs duties on fabrics and yarns to enhance the competitiveness of local companies. Discussions also addressed the possibility of facilitating visa issuance for traders and business owners to Saudi Arabia and China, aiming to open new markets.
